I noticed sometimes I can have a lot on my plate; Especially right now.
I manage to be an Active Duty Marine, clean my house, cook, take care of THREE dogs, do laundry, and still manage to support my husband's career and his dreams as well. All while figuring out school and life after the Marine Corps. My life can get a little hectic at times to say the least. So I thought I could share some of my tips and tricks to getting through the day/week a little easier.
TIP 1: Get Organized
This one is my favorite. I actually bought a planner so that I can put all our events including appointments, chores, birthday parties, family visits, ETC. I like to sit down on Sunday's and pencil in all that is going on for the upcoming week. It also helps me to make lists. I feel more accomplished when things are checked off and completed. You can also buy sticky notes, to do stickers, and fun pens to make this look pretty. (Because that totally matters when you have a planner, haha.)
TIP 2: Meal Plan
Now, I don't mean write down a meal for everyday and abide by that and only that. I mean make a list of some meals for the week that your family will enjoy. Make a grocery list with all the ingredients that you will need for these lunches/dinners and stick to that list when you get to the store. You can swap days whenever you'd like. This way you have what you need and your not roaming the grocery store grabbing unnecessary items and racking up the grocery bill.
TIP 3: Stay Hydrated
Buy a water bottle you love and make it a goal to fill it a certain amount of times before the end of the day. I'll be the first to admit I haven't always been the greatest about drinking water even after I joined the Marine Corps. After buying a new bottle designated for just water and setting a REALISTIC goal, I can say drinking water has been a lot easier for me.
TIP 4: Exercise
You don't have to go run a marathon to have accomplished a work out for the day. There are plenty of ways to get a work out in that fits your schedule. I prefer to work out in the early morning. You can go out for a run, go on a hike, lift some weights, play a sport, or even dance. Find something that sparks your interest and make it a routine. You'll notice that after a work out and a nice shower, you will feel refreshed and more awake.
TIP 5: Set Goals
Setting realistic goals can help get things done as well. These goals don't have to be drastic. Make them "reachable". You can make short term and long term goals. This can be something you would like to finish by the end of the day or something that you would like to accomplish by the weekend. Make short term goals that will help towards your long term goals.
TIP 6: Remember to Take Time for You
It is important to take some time out everyday to just relax and breathe. Whether that is reading a book or having a glass of wine, it is important to have some "you time". Gather your thoughts together , repeat an inspirational quote to yourself, sing your favorite song, take a bath; whatever it is that helps you get to your happy place.
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way an expert. These are just tips and tricks that help me have a less stressed, more productive week.
Question of the Day: What do you do to make your day/week/life less chaotic?
