What does the Future Look Like?

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

My EAS date is drawing closer and closer. For those who don't understand what that means, it stands for End of Active Service. And if you still don't know what that implies, it's short for saying my contract in the Marine Corps is almost over. So you may be thinking, "Okay, so what's next Nicole?"
I've thought long and hard about what I wanted to do after the Marine Corps. It gets a little bittersweet for me. I joined this Elite Force straight out of high school and the Corps is all I know. When decisions had to be made, I had to consider what was not only best for myself but what made me happy. What could I do outside the Marine Corps to essentially make a new career?
Now this wasn't a decision that was made overnight. I thought long and hard about this. I mean, We're talking about something I would be doing for a very long time if not the rest of my life.

Psychology.
That was it!
Many people who know me are probably asking, "But Nicole, I thought you wanted to work with kids? You're so good with them!"
And well, not too brag but its true. I do well with children. I love it.
But the truth is, its not a growing career field. I love children and I've never wanted to do something because of the money but I do have a family to worry about.
This doesn't go to say that they're aren't very successful people who work in the Child Developmental world. However, I don't want to take that career path.
I love helping people. I love speaking with them and allowing them to feel at ease when they speak with me. In these last few years, I've gone through a significant amount of obstacles. Enough to want to take my experience with all that I've been through and use that to help others.
If I can help at least one person, I've done what I set out to do.
So, I made the decision to get into a Psychology program in College and work my butt off to get where I want to be. And guess what? I can still work with children! Double Win right?

I also have a love for photography. I love capturing a moment that people can look back on for a lifetime. It is said that a picture can speak a thousand words and I love that I can take a photo and forever it will be a memory for someone. It's a beautiful thing really. So, I've also decided to pursue photography as well. Can't wait to start going on shoots and showing you all what I am capable of. Stay tuned for lots of photos to come.
